The long-awaited Unikeys Purple Dawn Switches are finally here! The Purple Dawn switch is one of the earliest HMX switches that use the UPE stem and the first HMX switch that pairs the UPE stem with the P4 bottom housing. If you have tried HMX switches with PA12 or P4 housings, you will notice that the PA12 material is one of the best top housing materials as it is very smooth and comes with a subtle and pleasant top-out sound. The P4 bottom housing is one of my favorites as it comes with a thocky, clacky, and vibrant bottom-out sound profile.
When paired with the modified UPE stem, Purple Dawn switches overall sound quite poppy with a thocky note. They won't be too loud since UPE is one of the more muted materials in this hobby.
Feeling-wise, they are very smooth and come with a clean and solid bottom-out. The modified UPE material is not as soft as UPE from other manufacturers as pure UPE can easily be broken. HMX modified its UPE material to make it more strengthened and more durable.

This is a heavy thocky linear. Perfect for use with a filled aluminum chassis and ceramic keycaps. Buttery & deep thock is what comes to mind. RGB shine through is excellent too. Solid A in my book. Louder than oil kings, but not clacky like linear reds either. So far, one of my favorite linears to date.
These feel really good, coming from the sunset gleam these are a bit heavier but not hard to type with just enough resistance. The sound is a bit less clacky but definitely not thick either I think it’s a good in between .
A beautiful, unique, enthusiast-grade sound profile. While the switches don't boast the "thockiness" of heavy switch such as ink blacks, it also does not suffer from the classic clacking of most HMX linears. The purple dawns sit between the two with a lighter, muted thock with a light-med resistance and a controlled bottom out. Factory lubed is also a huge win, though an additional coat of Krytox GPL 205g0 deepened the sound profile even further. Tested in aluminium and plastic frames with GMK caps. 10/10 if you are not after the generic thock or annoying clack, and don't want to spend more than $50 on switches
The delivery to my country was on time, I only waited a couple more days because of my local carrier. The switches arrived in good condition and I like them very much. The sound is very satisfying!
I wanted these HMX Purple Dawn switches, since the keycaps are quite heavy and wanted some extra opposing force while pressing. The keyboard I use is a Keychron V6 Max with its standard OSA keycaps. I find this combo very good.
These are devastatingly smooth and the sound is mild but also crisp. These are definitely HMX switches and you can tell by the smoothness and tight tolerances.
The only thing I did not like was how heavy they felt. I’m used to spring weights between 50g and 60g on linear switches and these are just a tad too heavy for me to use for work, for gaming these are excellent. But since I got these on sale, I have no regrets on the purchase as I will probably put them on a build for a friend.
These switches were recommended by a friend and I'm not disappointed I'd listened to him. They're on the heavier side, but we like heavy linears.
Order was very smooth, thanks Unikeys. Won't hesitate to order from you again.
Solid but flat
Sound is nicely low-pitched and solid but flat. BSUN/HC Studio Roselle switch is similarly low-pitched but louder at the expense of more secondary noise.
Very solid collisions! Nice sound on the bottom out. Very smooth and great application of lube. Not the deepest sounding switch I've ever heard, but it's definitely making deep sounds. Also love the colorway!
I personally like a deeper sounding switch, but recently I have been leaning towards a deeper switch with some more sound on the bottom out and the HMX switches, and these in particular, do not disaapoint. They do add a purple cast to whatever RGB you have so keep that in mind, but beyond that they're relly nice and up there with some of my favorite switches as of 05/11/24 when I am writing this. I am adding a date since the switch scene is moving so fast, who know what new awesomeness is around the bend, but these are a banger!
Quality switch, super smooth, great lube job, but the spring is a bit too heavy for my liking. Feels even heavier than the rated weight for some reason. Nothing thatca spring swap can't handle though! :D
The Purple Dawn's are a unique HMX option. I love that they have a true full-travel to them, and their sound signature stays true to HMX clack, but they're surprisingly quiet compared to others like Clouds. The bottom out is very toned down with a crisp top out. I highly recommend these switches!
