Every linear switch has two force numbers worth knowing. Actuation (operating) force is how hard you press before the keystroke registers, and bottom-out force is how hard you push to hit the bottom of the keystroke. Since linear switches have no tactile bump, the spring weight is the single biggest factor in how a switch feels day to day.
Light (≈35–45g actuation / ~40–45g bottom-out)
Light linear switches feel fast and effortless, with very little resistance under your fingers. They're the go-to for gaming, where quick, repeated key presses matter, and for fast typists or anyone doing long sessions who wants to avoid finger fatigue. The trade-off: lighter springs are easier to trigger by accident if you rest your fingers on the keys.
Medium (≈40–50g actuation / ~45–55g bottom-out)
Medium-weight linears are the all-rounders and the easiest first switch to recommend. They balance speed with enough resistance to keep accidental presses in check, making them comfortable for mixed typing and gaming. The HMX Azalea (42–45g actuation, offered in 50g and 55g bottom-out) is a good example of this balanced, everyday feel. If you're not sure where to start, a medium linear is the safe pick.
Heavy (≈55g+ actuation / ~60g+ bottom-out)
Heavier linear switches ask for a more deliberate press and give you more control, which suits heavy-handed typists who tend to bottom out hard and anyone who wants to slow down their keystrokes for accuracy.
Quick guide: chasing speed for gaming → go light. Want one switch that does everything → go medium. Prefer control and a firmer, deeper feel → go heavy. Use the spring-weight options on each product page to fine-tune, and check the spec table for the exact actuation and bottom-out force.
