Frequently Asked Questions
1.
What is a keyboardswitch removal tool?
A keyboard switch removal tool (also called a switch puller) is a specialized tool that allows you to safely remove mechanical keyboard switches—especially MX-style hot-swap switches—from the plate or PCB without damaging pins or the board.
2.
Will the TX Switch Puller work with my keyboard?
Yes. The TX Switch Puller is compatible with nearly all MX-style mechanical keyboards, hot-swappable PCBs, and switch tester boards.
For soldered switches, you will still need to desolder them first before using the puller.
3.
How do I use the tool without damaging my keyboard?
Disconnect your keyboard from power. Position the puller’s claws on both sides of the switch housing. Apply gentle, even upward pressure to release the switch straight out of the plate. Avoid twisting or pulling at an angle to prevent bent pins or PCB damage.
4.
Can this tool scratch my keyboard case or plate?
The TX Switch Puller features rounded, polished edges to minimize any risk of scratching or chipping anodized finishes. When used correctly with straight, even pulls, it will not damage your keyboard’s surface.

Excellent switch puller.
In the video, I struggle a bit because I'm holding the phone with one hand and the PCB isn't stable, but you can see that it removes the switches effortlessly and without damaging them or the PCB. Plus, you can chain up to 4 or 5 switches together in the storage compartment.
One of the best purchases I made in this hobby, you don't realize it until you try it but the usual switch/keycap puller combo that is offered with most keyboards really is pretty bad in comparison.
While many switch pullers have tapered tips, but this has a tip that is the same width as the switch, allowing the entire puller to grip the switch. So even when a switch is stuck very tightly, I don't end up applying more force than necessary and breaking it.
