The Gateron Type R tactile switch might be the craziest tactile switch you have ever seen. Sillyworks' goal was to create a tactile switch that doesn't come with any linear travel: A 100% pure tactile switch. Let's take a look at how they got that done:

Type R switch has a super short travel distance which is 3mm only. With the help of the elongated stem pole and tactile bump design, the tactility starts at the keypress and ends with the bottom-out. It

Sound-wise, because the travel is so short and bottom-out comes too quickly, the Type R switches tend to sound clackier than other Gateron tactile switches.

Customer photo review of SILLYWORKS X GATERON Type R Tactile Switch Factory Lubed (10PCS)

I have an Evo 80 pre-built keyboard, amazing keyboard, but I wanted to replace its linear switches for a tactile switch. I found this switch and chose it on a whim and I really enjoy it. It feels amazing while typing and I feel like it boosted my typing speed. The only issue I have with it is that it doesn't work well with RGB (It might have been an option during purchase to replace it with a clear housing but I don't remeber) and that it isn't my favorite for gaming.

These switches pair well in my red Weikav nut65- sounding and feeling nice, and their surprisingly consistent with only one or two switches being underlubed or overlubed. I might switch to being a tactile fan after mostly using linears.

I was very hesitant of ordering about 90x of these switches but boy am I glad I did. Really wanted to try these for a long time given all the hype surrounding them but kept delaying the purchase because the opinion seemed to be divisive when it came to daily driving them for most people. Lack of pre-travel makes them a really unique feeling switch that sits between a tactile and a linear. Tactile bump starts the moment you press it and stays there till you bottom out. End result is it feels like a linear with tactile bump, at least to me. The tactile bump itself is a medium-force wide bump that feels very much pronounced. The switches are smooth and have no pinging or ticking which is quite nice given that these are Gaterons. They sound clacky but not too high pitched. Cilantros sound clankier and louder than these. I'm running them on my Crush80 with alu plate+all stock foams and they sound very pleasant. Too too loud, not too dull. I was worried that the travel might be too short for as these are just 3mm but the long pole+tactile bump really makes these feel like a standard 3.8mm switch. Dark crimson red they have chosen for the switch looks really great in person and helps it set apart from other switches. Only downside is lack of a diffuser or cut-out. Effectively blocks 95% of the light but some bleed through just enough you can see the light barely in keyboards with south-facing LEDs. All in all, these are incredibly innovative tactiles that are absolutely worth the hype. My only regret is that I had gotten them sooner.

What can I say? Rapid fire delight. First it landed in my project KBD67 with softer polycarbonate surroundings and after that it's going to one of my full alu keyboards, probably one of the Neos. I expect them to sound there almost as those old typewriters.

I feel in love again with tactile's. These switches are great. You either going to love or hate them. I was worried about the short travel as I do prefer 4 mm. With these switches It never became an issue for me. You do get fatigue easily for long typing sessions but I can live with that.

The Type-R's are tight and snappy and I was a little worried before trying them that they might be a little too unique. Well, they are unique, but it's like meeting someone and instantly knowing they belong in your life. Yes, I fell in love with these switches. A big thanks to Unikeys for their excellent product and service!

Customer video review of SILLYWORKS X GATERON TYPE R TACTILE SWITCH FACTORY LUBED EDITION (10PCS)

Tried these out after doing some research on tactile switches. I was a big fan of mx ergo white, so the type-r intrigued me. The type-r is now my favorite after trying them out. I took the type-r stems and put them into wuque studio quartz clear housing for that better shine through

lives up to its hype, you won't regret getting it. in the new batch, there are no chattering nor overlubing issues. the bump of these switches is a rounded bump that spans the entire travel of the switch. If you were to compare them to the Mountain Kings, the Mountain Kings are higher pitched, sounds a bit glassy and has a sharper bump. Comparing both Mountain Kings and Type R's stock, Type R's have a much cleaner sound profile and are lower pitched. sound: deep, full-bodied clack and not overbearing nor fatiguing

SILLYWORKS X GATERON TYPE R TACTILE SWITCH FACTORY LUBED EDITION (10PCS)

What a wonderful tactile switch. The d-bump is there to make you understand that it exists and it is in control. The clack is very “Mah Jong” to make your ears and fingers pop! Very pleased, even on PC boards where RGB cannot shine through the switch but can bleed through the surrounding plate layer.

These switches are fantastic! I'll concede that this is my first foray into mechanical keyboards, and after a bit of research into the latest best switches, I did a testing of 10 switches, of which the Gateron Type R's stood out. So, not that much experience / knowledge in the switches scene. That being said, I did find that these switches stood out distinctly from the other tactile switches for me. They sound amazing, since they come factory-lubed (if you select that option), and I am excited to see how well they serve me in the long run. Might have to get a few extras just in case one of them breaks in the future. 10/10. Also, they ship worldwide which is a big plus!
