HMX Egg Yolk Linear Switch (Clacky and Poppy Sounding)

The HMX Egg Yolk Linear Switch is the first HMX switch to feature their innovative Hybrid Molding System, allowing the bottom housing and center mast to be made from different materials.

For Egg Yolk, the bottom housing uses durable PA66 with 10% fiberglass, while the center mast is molded from HMX's S1 blend. This unique combination delivers a crisp, clacky, and exceptionally clean sound profile while maintaining excellent structural integrity.

The Hybrid Molding System makes it possible to utilize specialty materials like S1 in ways that were previously impractical, opening new possibilities for switch sound and feel customization.

Finished with HMX's renowned factory lubrication, the Egg Yolk offers outstanding smoothness right out of the box. It is one of HMX's most balanced and best-sounding clacky linear switches to date.

Hybrid Mold Construction

HMX’s Hybrid Molding System in a Linear Switch

The HMX Egg Yolk is a linear switch designed by KK Lab and manufactured by HMX. It is the first HMX switch on the current product page to use the company’s Hybrid Molding System, allowing the bottom housing and its center mast to use different materials.

The bottom housing is PA66 reinforced with 10% fiberglass, while the center mast uses HMX’s S1 material. This construction is paired with an M2 strengthened PP stem and a PC top housing, giving the Egg Yolk a material layout that differs from conventional single-material bottom housings.

Specification Guide

Choose Between the 45g and 53g Bottom-Out Variants

The Egg Yolk is currently offered in two spring-weight variants. Both use the same confirmed 2.0mm pre-travel, 3.6±0.2mm total travel and 22mm KOS single-stage extended spring design.

37±2g / 43±2g Operating Force

The lighter and firmer variants provide two levels of initial keypress resistance while retaining the same linear mechanism.

45±2g / 53±2g Bottom-Out Force

Choose the 45g option for the lighter bottom-out or the 53g option for a firmer end of travel.

2.0mm Pre-Travel

The listed pre-travel is the distance before actuation; keyboard firmware and the complete build also affect the overall response experience.

3.6±0.2mm Total Travel

The Egg Yolk uses a slightly shortened total travel compared with a traditional 4mm-class switch.

Materials & Factory Lube

Four Confirmed Material Roles in One Switch

The Egg Yolk combines several different materials instead of relying on one housing blend. HMX’s hybrid mold separates the bottom housing body from the center mast so each can use a different material.

  • Stem: M2 strengthened PP.
  • Top housing: PC.
  • Bottom housing: PA66 with 10% fiberglass.
  • Bottom-housing center mast: HMX S1.

Factory lubrication is also applied selectively: the stem legs and sliders receive a very thin coat of 205g0, while the spring and leaf use dry-film lubrication. The bottom housing and the area near the stem pole are kept dry.

Weight & Build Fit

Who Is the HMX Egg Yolk Most Likely to Suit?

The Egg Yolk is a linear switch with two spring-weight choices and a distinctive hybrid-mold material configuration. It is best considered by users who want a smooth, uninterrupted linear keypress and who value the option to choose a lighter or firmer bottom-out.

May Suit

  • Users who prefer a linear switch without a tactile bump or click mechanism.
  • Enthusiasts interested in HMX’s hybrid-mold bottom-housing construction.
  • Buyers who want a choice between 45g and 53g bottom-out variants.
  • Typing or gaming builds where a factory-lubed linear switch is preferred.

May Not Suit

  • Users specifically looking for tactile feedback.
  • Buyers who want a clicky switch mechanism.
  • Users who require a confirmed silent or low-noise switch.
  • Anyone who prefers a traditional 4mm-class total travel.

Before You Order

Pack Size, Variant Selection and Compatibility

One quantity contains 10 switches. Select the preferred spring variant first—45g bottom-out or 53g bottom-out—then calculate the number of 10-switch packs required for the full keyboard layout.

The current product specifications do not state universal compatibility with every keyboard. Before ordering, compare the switch format shown in the product photos with the PCB, plate and mounting requirements of the intended keyboard.

Ordering note: Each cart quantity equals 10 switches. For a full board, count all switch positions and add spare switches if desired.
