HMX Saru V2 Tactile Switch

HMX Saru V2 brings back Saru’s signature full tactile character with a medium-light feel. The first Saru released in 2022 with little pre- or post-bump travel; this V2 reworks the concept with HMX for a full tactile switch that feels smooth and close to linear in use.

Out of the box, Saru V2 delivers a light, rounded tactile bump across the travel. As the factory lubricant distributes through break-in, the tactile profile becomes more evenly pronounced without losing its easy, flowing feel.

The sound is clacky, balanced, clean, and semi-full. Lubrication is applied to all four sides of the stem, the contact leaf, bottom-housing rails, and bottom-housing stem support.

Full Tactile Character

A Medium-Light Full Tactile with Short Overall Travel

The HMX Saru V2 is a five-pin tactile switch designed by Divinikey and manufactured by HMX. It revisits the original Saru concept with a rounded tactile event that occupies much of the keypress while keeping the overall force in a medium-light range.

UniKeys describes the out-of-box feel as light and rounded, with the tactile profile becoming more evenly pronounced as the factory lubricant distributes during break-in. The result is intended to retain an easy, flowing press rather than feeling sharply abrupt.

  • Five-pin MX-structure tactile switch.
  • PA12 nylon top housing, modified POM stem and PA2 nylon bottom housing.
  • 48g ± 5g operating force with 52g ± 5g bottom-out force.
  • Short 2.9 ± 0.3mm total travel.
  • Factory lubricant applied across the stem, leaf, rails and stem support.

Specification Guide

48g Operating Force with a Compact 2.9mm Stroke

The Saru V2 combines medium-light spring force with a relatively short total travel. That specification gives it a different decision profile from long-travel tactiles or heavier switches.

48g ± 5gOperating Force

The listed actuation force keeps the switch in a medium-light tactile range.

52g ± 5gBottom-Out Force

Only a small force increase separates operation from bottom-out.

2.5 ± 0.5mmPre-Travel

The listed pre-travel is relatively long compared with the overall stroke.

2.9 ± 0.3mmTotal Travel

The short overall travel creates a compact keypress compared with many traditional 4.0mm MX-style switches.

Materials & Factory Lubing

Factory Lubing Is Applied Across Multiple Contact Areas

The confirmed specification lists PA12 nylon for the top housing, modified POM for the stem and PA2 nylon for the bottom housing. UniKeys also specifies a broad factory-lube application rather than a minimal spot treatment.

  • All four sides of the stem are lubricated.
  • The contact leaf is lubricated.
  • The bottom-housing rails are lubricated.
  • The bottom-housing stem support is lubricated.
  • A 20mm KOS single-stage spring is used.

The product page notes that the tactile profile can become more evenly pronounced after some use as the lubricant settles and distributes.

Sound, Feel & Build Fit

Who Is the HMX Saru V2 Most Likely to Suit?

UniKeys describes the Saru V2 as clacky, balanced, clean and semi-full, with a high-pitched sound profile. The tactile feel is rounded and full rather than a tiny isolated bump.

May Suit

  • Users who want a medium-light tactile switch rather than a heavy tactile.
  • Typists who prefer a rounded tactile event across much of the travel.
  • Buyers who like a high-pitched, crisp and clacky acoustic direction.
  • Short-travel builds where a 2.9mm total stroke is desirable.
  • Users who want extensive factory lubrication out of the box.

May Not Suit

  • Users who want a long 4.0mm travel or a very deep keypress.
  • People looking for a silent or strongly muted office switch.
  • Users who prefer a purely linear travel with no tactile bump.
  • Buyers seeking a very heavy or highly resistant tactile spring.

Before You Order

Confirm Five-Pin PCB Support and Order Enough 10-Switch Packs

One quantity contains 10 switches. The current specification identifies the Saru V2 as a five-pin PCB-mount MX-structure switch, so check the keyboard PCB and plate before ordering a full set.

For a hot-swap board, verify that the sockets and plate support the intended five-pin installation. Final sound will vary with the case, plate, mount, keycaps and internal dampening.

Ordering note: Each cart quantity equals 10 switches. Calculate the packs needed for the target layout and include spares if desired.
