In theory, the Y3X switch is not an upgrade to the Y3 switch. Y3X and Y3 cover different sound and typing spectra. Compared to the classic Y3 switch, Y3X is slightly louder and poppier. Thanks to the spherical stem tip and spherical bottom housing contact point (Same as Keygeek Butterfly Switch), Y3X has a mellower and softer bottom-out feel than Y3.
In general, if you are looking for a switch that is creamy and thocky, Y3 would be the go-to option. If you want your keyboard to sound thocky and poppy at the same time, this is what Y3X was designed for.

Amazing mid weight switches. The sound is very Thocky to creamy, best use this switch in foamy builds to make it sound very creamy. I like this better than gateron oil kings. Amazing.
Love these! They’re a really neat combination of being relatively quiet, but still satisfying to type on and kind of tactile. The video is on an artemis paragon, aluminum with foams.
Y3X is very smooth, sounds thocky, similar to Y3 as expected, but slightly louder.
(ignore the ticking sound in the video. Thats the sound of my finger nails hitting the keycap. These switch do not tick)
Deep and poppy sound profile! A bit louder than the Y3. There is a slight ticking present, but unless you are particularly sensitive to it, it likely won’t be noticeable in everyday use.
2025 was the year of KEYGEEK for sure. They didnt seem to have a miss (one or two releases had some pinging issues). These carry on the brilliance of the Yx series as both the Y2 and Y3 are incredible switches.
These use the spheres on the tip trick to make things a bit deeper and sound fuller. Couple that with incredibly smooth feel and no wobble and, if the deeper sounds are your thing, these are a must buy!
