HMX Keyboard Switch Mold Update (March 7th, 2025)
In today's article, we will be looking at some new stuff HMX has been working on; It includes a few new mold sets, which are compatible with new materials and new switch types. If you are interested in learning more about HMX's current mold options, please refer to our previous article: Breaking Down HMX's Mold Sets
HMX's New Molds
New top housing with texture
This new top housing mold is not exactly brand new since Siliworks' Sonja switches are already using it. They designed and created the texture deliberately to create a nice and satisfying scratchy sound and feel to mimic Cherry switches.
Also, there will be a Sonja Hardcore version which comes with even more scratch and a heavier spring (Shhhh!
POM housing
Yes we had a taste of HMX's POM housing with Serene Green switches, but it really was just a taste. I have tried a few different samples with POM housing paired with various stem materials. All I can say is they all sound and feel interesting. What doesn't change is you should expect most of them to stay clacky since it is still HMX.
Stem with spherical tip
The reason for having such a non-orthodox stem tip was to create a deeper and quieter sound profile. HMX is actually not the first switch manufacturer to utilize such design. Vertex V1 switches, which were manufactured by JWK was the first to have a spherical stem tip; Keygeek released quite a bunch of switches with a similar stem tip shape as well.
HMX's spherical tip is a bit different from both JWK and Keygeek's; It has a larger contact area and the bump appears to be smaller as well. Such design is for a better typing feel and a more solid bottom out while maintaining the deep and quiet sound.

Tactile Switch Mold
HMX's tactile molds are almost ready. HMX thought they were completely ready, but a few people, including me, pointed out that the leaf ticking needed a major fix. Once that is done, we will start seeing new HMX tactile switches being released. They do have different molds for big bump and small bump tactiles.
HMX Magnetic Switch
HMX has been working on magnetic switch design and molding development. The most recent update from HMX indicates that such development is near it's complete, and there will be samples for the magnetic switches very soon.
UPE housing
UPE housing is also something they have been working on, but due to UPE's fragile nature, it is taking a bit longer than expected.
